Leather Leg Warmers - Leg Warmers - Spats - Gaiters - Leggies

Spats were primarily worn by men, and less commonly by women, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They fell out of frequent usage during the 1920s. Made of white cloth or brown felt material, spats buttoned around the ankle. Their intended practical purpose was to protect shoes and socks from mud or rain but this footwear also served as a feature of stylish dress in accordance with the fashions of the period. The wearing of spats is often used as symbolic shorthand to represent wealth, eccentricity, or both.

Originally worn by dancers to keep their muscles from cramping after stretching, in the early 1980s leg warmers became a fad, and wearing them was fashionable among teenage girls. Their popularity was partly due to the influence of the films "Fame" and "Flashdance" and the concurrent aerobics craze. They were worn with leggings, jeans, and tights or as part of aerobic wear. Leg warmers can vary in length, and in width, and also material.

Recently, leg warmers have become popular. Many people are known to purchase a great number of shoes and boots to keep up with ever-changing styles and trends. However, due to the relentless pace of style and fashion, these fashion-minded individuals must continuously purchase new footwear to stay abreast of the trends. This process often causes footwear to be obsolete or discarded well before the footwear wears out due to use.
